Central to CSUMB is the belief that applied learning better prepares students for their future career goals in both graduate school and the job sector. In TAT, "learning by doing" means thinking, communicating, and expressing through media making.

In support of this learning model, the TAT Department provides facilties and equipment for a wide variety of media production in digital video, audio, 16mm film, interactive media, projection, and the supporting computers and software central to today's creative media production.
